Pastor
Lois Black and Yuba City First United Methodist Church believe that
a personal relationship with Jesus Christ must be the starting place
for any understanding of God at work in our lives. Rev. Dr. Black’s
road to ministry began with her call at age 13. Lois is married and
she and her husband, Shannon, are blessed as the parents of seven.
One might say Lois practiced her shepherding skills at home. Prior
to her appointment with Yuba City FUMC, Pastor Lois held staff
positions with this congregation for the four years leading up to
her current appointment. Including service as Associate Pastor. She
also served as Pastor-In-Charge to Parkside United Methodist Church
in Williams, CA for three years.
Rev. Dr. Black’s education includes her Bachelor’s
Degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and being named Strategic
Management student of the year from California State University in
Sacramento. She received academic honors from Golden Key Honor
Society, Beta Gama Sigma and was named in Who’s Who. She continued
her education at Fuller Theological Seminary and San Francisco
Theological Seminary where she received her Masters of Divinity and
Asbury Theological Seminary where she received her Doctor of
Ministry.
During Yuba City First United Methodist’s 150-year history, she is
the first woman to address the congregation as Pastor-In-Charge.
When asked about the inerrancy of Scriptures, Rev. Dr. Black said, “I
believe God’s Word is without error, but our interpretations are
not”. The church is committed to the old fashioned principles of
God with a focus on practical application of those principles to our
lives in the 21st century. Yuba City First United Methodist Church
says they have Good News to share. Rev. Dr. Black’s focus will be on
relevant ways of sharing the good news in light of today’s issues. |
