IN THIS LESSON

This is one of the more brutal and graphic scenes in the Book of Revelation. But as always, we must ask: what’s the deeper meaning behind the imagery? Who is the one riding on the white horse? We’ve seen him before in Revelation—what does his return here mean? Verse 15 says, “He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.” But how exactly does he do that? And by whose sacrifice? John envisions kings, generals, and mighty warriors—all brought low. Who were they in his time, and who might they represent today? Finally, what do we make of God’s Great Feast—a disturbing banquet of judgment where birds feast on the flesh of the fallen? How should we understand this passage—not literally, but faithfully?
