IN THIS LESSON

In this passage, Paul reveals that he is from the tribe of Benjamin and references 1 Samuel 12:22: “God has not abandoned His people” (v. 2). Why is this important? Paul draws on the story of Elijah—his disappointment, depression, and desperate plea—to reflect his own situation regarding Israel’s rejection of the Messiah. How does Elijah’s experience mirror Paul’s? Who were the “remnants” in Paul’s time, and why does Paul emphasize that this remnant is chosen by grace, not by works (vv. 5–6)? What does this reveal about God's faithfulness, and about the way God continues to work even when we feel alone?
