IN THIS LESSON

Before visiting Rome and ultimately heading to Spain, Paul had to go somewhere first: Jerusalem. What caused the believers in Jerusalem to be poor? How was the economic situation of the early church in Acts 2:43–47 different from that of Paul’s time—for example, in 2 Thessalonians 3:7–11? What ironies do we see in Paul’s support for the Jerusalem church in light of all the trouble he faced during his ministry career (cf. Gal. 2:12)? And why does he ask the church in Rome to pray for him (vv. 30–31)?
