IN THIS LESSON

The Apostle Paul begins this passage by saying, “We, the strong ones, should bear with the frailty of the ‘weak,’ and not please ourselves” (v. 1). But who are the strong ones? And why should we focus on building up others rather than pleasing ourselves? Who is the role model for such a life? Paul presents Scripture as evidence for hope—but why? Psalm 69 serves as a subtext for this passage. What is Psalm 69 about, and how does Paul use it to amplify his main point?
